Luxembourg AI Factory accelerates Europe’s AI ambitions
At SCynergy 2026 in Luxembourg, experts discussed how the Luxembourg AI Factory is shaping Europe’s AI future through supercomputing, data and talent.
Moderated by Dr Lilit Axner from the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, the discussion took place at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce on 14 March. Representatives from the Luxembourg AI Factory consortium, spanning innovation, research, data and supercomputing, shared concrete, experience‑driven insights from their work enabling AI across Europe.
Europe launches federated AI supercomputing platform
Dr Axner announced a major milestone for European AI infrastructure: the launch of Europe's first federated supercomputing access platform. MeluXina is among the first five supercomputers included, enabling researchers and companies across Europe to access high-performance AI computing through a single, user-friendly interface.
For users, this marks a shift from complex command‑line interfaces to a user‑friendly screen that enables faster experimentation, simulation and AI development across borders. The Luxembourg AI Factory plays a central role in this European constellation.
The Luxembourg AI Factory is one of the brightest stars.”

Dr Axner also underlined the strategic importance of education, stating that “Students are one of the strongest weapons for the country”, anchoring talent development as a core pillar of European competitiveness.
MeluXina supercomputer powers secure AI innovation
The infrastructure behind the Luxembourg AI Factory is anchored in MeluXina, operated by LuxProvide. Arnaud Lambert, CEO of LuxProvide, described MeluXina as far more than a cloud solution.
MeluXina is a powerful supercomputer, not just a cloud. It’s like a ‘spaceship’ for pushing innovation frontiers.”
Arnaud Lambert
He emphasised that the Luxembourg AI Factory is the only AI Factory with direct access to a Tier IV supercomputer, making it, in his words, “the perfect place to train, test and explore”. This capability is particularly relevant for secure and sovereign AI development at European scale, as “the infrastructure we have is for Europe.”
Data is inseparable from AI performance. Bert Verdonck, CEO of the Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS), highlighted that “There is of course no AI without data, and we need even bigger data now”, while stressing MeluXina’s ability to process very sensitive data that cannot be anonymised. This opens new pathways for trusted AI innovation in regulated and high‑impact domains.
Luxembourg AI Factory supports industry and talent development
Transforming infrastructure into real economic and societal value requires strong coordination. Luxinnovation’s CEO Mario Grotz explained that the “role of Luxinnovation is to be the commercial arm of the Luxembourg AI Factory: visit companies, identify their needs and determine the services best suited for them.” While the Luxembourg AI Factory specialises in four key verticals, he underlined that it is open to companies of all sizes and sectors.
Academic and industrial collaboration is a core pillar of the Luxembourg AI Factory. Simone Niclou, Vice‑Rector for Research at the University of Luxembourg, stressed that close cooperation with companies underpins both research and education. “We work closely together with industry to develop new and innovative solutions,” she said, highlighting how applied research and training are directly connected to real industrial needs.
Francesco Ferrero, Lead for AI research at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), highlighted the value of secure AI sandboxes as a bridge between experimentation and deployment. These controlled environments are already used for concrete applications for BIL and the City of Luxembourg. A complementary analysis by LIST explores in more depth how these capabilities contribute to turning the Luxembourg AI Factory into a long‑term engine of innovation.
Together, the panellists demonstrated how the Luxembourg AI Factory combines supercomputing, data governance, skills and industrial engagement into an integrated European platform.
How to access Luxembourg AI Factory services
By connecting secure infrastructure with talent, trusted data and hands‑on support, the Luxembourg AI Factory offers organisations a concrete entry point to develop, test and scale AI in Europe. For AI professionals across academia, industry and government, it offers a clear invitation, engage, experiment and build the future of AI from Luxembourg.
