Technical support to AI regulatory sandbox

Get independent technical expertise from scientists to support the testing and validation of innovative AI systems to make sure your system is ready for an AI regulatory sandbox.

What it is and why it matters

Under Articles 57 and 58 of the EU AI Act, national competent authorities set up AI regulatory sandboxes. These are formally supervised frameworks where innovative AI systems can be developed, tested and validated for a limited period before they are placed on the market. In a regulatory sandbox, providers get guidance from the competent authority on how the AI Act applies to their system, and the system is tested under the authority's oversight. Assessing whether an AI system is accurate, robust, secure and trustworthy often requires specialised technical expertise and testing tools.

This service, delivered by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), makes that expertise available to regulatory sandbox engagements, so that regulatory decisions and guidance can rely on sound technical evidence.

How can Luxembourg AI Factory help

  • Technical advice within regulatory sandbox engagements

  • Access to technical testing capabilities

  • A bridge between technical and regulatory sandboxes

What you can expect

  1. Delivered by LIST
The service is provided exclusively by experts from LIST, Luxembourg's largest public research institute.
  2. Independent technical expertise
You get science-based technical input on the AI system being tested, complementing the regulatory guidance provided by the competent authority.
  3. A clear separation of roles
Luxembourg AI Factory is not a competent authority under the AI Act. Its technical support does not count as regulatory supervision; supervision and regulatory guidance remain the responsibility of the national competent authority.
